We all once watched the zellig for the first time. The first impressions, received during the viewing process, are undoubtedly priceless. And I would like to share one of these with (You).
The first month I got acquainted with the series, I sincerely thought that Maya was Flemish (just the Dutch but living in Belgium). Everything (Mymy in particular) on the screen led the viewer to this conclusion. Light (green) eyes and quite white skin (if more concretely, in the first deel it was rather slightly swarthy, like the Southern Europeans, and throughout the entire show, her skin doesn’t really stand out, specifically in comparison with Coco’s tan face, which makes us think of just an inappropriate palette rather than the literal skin color). This, albeit is far-fetched, “Flemishness” gave some charm to the known character. Really, I still don't get why Massa did Maya as mutt only for “muh lack of any ethnic self-identity” while he could not only make her Flemish, but also justify constant statements of different personnages about Maya’s “Belgian bornness”, it actually wouldn’t affect Maya as a character with extreme socialization problems and even give integrity to the picture of the Schoppenboer family (including Coco and Mymy, of course). Ultimately, one of you could argue, that this would “undermine” scenes with a clear Indonesian subtext, but in this case it would be essentially a reverse version of what we have now.
Even if we don't discount her Indo origins, it wouldn't hurt for her to just have tangible Flemish roots to the show will get more logical in context of its racial Santa-Barbara with 83 zelligions of ethnic and sub-ethnic minorities related with the Netherlands.

The Flemish have been negrofied by the Wallon subhumans and can't be considered Dutch anymore anyways they are mongrels
