The painter she had mentioned was from South Africa so no wonder she brings him up at the first occasion. She is just patriotic and it is clear she deeply loves her homeland. But the homeland is not safe for her anymore. Her hyperfixation on local South African stuff only echoes her yearning after her parents, people, land. She plays her country's national sport, she speaks with her native accent and uses her language's grammar (double negative), and that she does it all must have had a reason. A very sentimental one.

Like most normies they find something to fill their eternal inner void, I am sure Coco doesnt even actually think that artist is good, she simply read it somewhere one day or felt she was supposed to do it, especially considering pierneef is a ZA artist that is taught to high school students in Zaud AfriKKKA, and normally dutch students don't. In this sense Coco is attaching herself to a country she hasnt lived in for at least a decade, a bit like muslims practicing SOLELY ramadan because it makes them feel quirky and special
