One of the few benefits it had during the 2010s over that of PC gaming is you could still ultimately own your shit without sort of ostracizing yourself from the norm. Unfortunately, vidya as an industry constantly degenerates from greed and repetition, and thus they followed the Steam model, removing ownership of games (digital licenses) and thus there is nothing really special about it. That's ultimately why music and television are a superior medium, they've never sold out to the point where you can't buy the latest new shit and most importantly own it without pirating.
