Why do hispanists want you to believe that the spanish empaire wasn't racist and was a nordic socialdemocracy? If it was not racist there wouldn't be obsession over being white in latin america

Probably because the panhispanist dream is unifying all spanish speakers into a single state, which would involve millions of borderline illiterate jungle dwellers. In the context of an extractive, hierarchical empire this could theoretically work, but the only people who actually want it are marxists who would take the wealth from the rich and give it to these bolivians and olmecs. Naturally the functional nations of the hispanic world have no desire to see this achieved, so these third world worshippers need to lie about the nature of the spanish empire, painting it as a 16th century race blind inclusive woodstock or something, and push a narrative that opposing this unification would be “racist” and therefore “against the spirit” of the old empire. Plenty of latin american socialists present the spanish empire in exactly this light, and specifically contrast it as progressive and racially tolerant compared to the Anglo colonial system in America and Canada, which was more rigid in its division between white, black, and red. Some of the most diehard even go so far as to say the spanish themselves are not white, because of the moors, and so the spanish empire couldn’t have been white supremacist.

Uniting all of latin america would be extremely difficult, but states like gran colombia or the federal republic of central america could’ve survived. And I also agree spaniards are white by any logical modern definition
