As someone who loves language learning I can assure you it is a complete waste of time. Native speakers will not appreciate you any more for it and switch to English the moment they realise you're a foreign speaker. It's also no longer useful for traveling as every place that is worth visiting has English signs and English speaking staff anyway, not to mention that AI is also now capable of picking up on cultural nuance and slang when translating.
