I feel like the Schoppenboer family is probably slightly flawed, I always imagined Ravi as a kind of distant and tired father. He probably slaves away in some bugman job to support his family as they seem to be economically well off.

I'm pretty sure Massa said that Soei is a bit self-centered and I have some vague memory of her valuing accomplishments a lot. I could see her being more proud of Mymy and Coco since they're both very admirable young women (especially Mymy). 

Mymy plays the accordion, writes for the local newspaper, plays in the school's korfball team and also seems to excel in her French studies. 

Coco while not as accomplished she still clearly has done a lot playing rugby, being very popular and kind to practically everyone in school and being the drummer for a band with her friends.

So I could definitely see Soei being more proud of Mymy and Coco and possibly a bit disappointed in Maya for being a spiteful shut-in gooner-nigger. But most mothers will have an extremely strong, hard-coded love for their biological children so I still think she loves Maya a great deal. 

But yeah this was my reddit-esque nigger essay, what do you think /zellig/?
