>>132254 I wouldn't say that she has bulimia nervosa (despite her referring to purging as 'the bulimia method') as BN involves both binge-eating and compensatory behaviour [see the DSM 5 TR], the latter including activities like purging, abuse of laxatives, and over-exercising. Maya purges in Maya's Sweet 16, and considers it again in the Mayamail series, but she never engages in binge-eating behaviour. By the final Mayamail entry, whether Maya's developed anorexia nervosa is debatable --given that she certainly meets criterion A of the DSM5, but may not qualify for the other two criteria-- but it almost certain that she is on a course to develop AN: she already restricts her nutritional intake such that she is underweight (fulfilling criterion A), Mayamail03 suggests she conscious about her weight (although this doesn't satisfy criterion B's first clause), her 'fasting' may be considered 'persistent behaviour that interferes with weight gain, even though at a significantly low weight.' (fulfilling criterion B), she fails to recognise the seriousness of the extent to which she is underweight (although there isn't enough evidence to deem this 'persistent', so she doesn't fulfill criterion C, but may in the future), and she justifies herself as not being anorexic in a manner scarily alike to a former colleague of mine.
