Unless she ran away at 6, the adoptive story speaks far more to what I've seen with adopted kids from different races. They'll see their abandonment as an insult and rejection, and grow resentful to their original ethnicity in favor of emulating their adoptive family, whom to them are the exemplars of charity and goodwill. Of course, they can never be their caretakers' ethnicity, which creates much conflict.
