The same people who go OMGSISA pass by the same exact thing they're looking for everyday. But either ignore it or are not aware of it because said people are invisible to the untrained eye. If you just put in the effort to look around you, you'll recognize them too. Maybe that guy at the back of the class who always goes his own way or , or that one girl who at first glance is just a bit uglier than normal, but who doesn't seem to stick around the circles of people. These people, they don't want an actual "X GF" but an object they can fix. Same thing happens to women: the most popular fantasy is "taming the beast". I am not shitting you, women fantasize about a burly man or "a savage", a broken man, who they can civilize or somehow save. Maya at her core is just Massa's self insert, and by proxy takes on the traits of a typical 'cel, that's why so many Zaryans see a mirror put in front of them when presented with Maya. Normies do it too, but to a much lesser extent (they just see that a character is sad, associate it with one of their rare occasions in which they are sad and suddenly "she's literally me"). A MayaGODs would never wish this existence upon anyone else, and can't help it but to see themselves in her. Who says shit like "X mogs" without any hint of irony, is no different than people who waifudueled on the 'cucks. 

TLDR The people who see her as an object fall for the superficial perceived beauty of it, people who understand and respect the character can't help it but feel attached to it
