Now, does this thing have big shoes to fill, let's start with what I liked.
The background is good, and the last shot where Vera is portrayed as a younger version of herself because she started playing again was smart. And I think that's about it.

Now let's list what I didn't like. For being a dialogueless strip, it sure doesn't rely much on visual cues and could actually use a lot of tweaking, even dropping the half assed "show, don't tell approach". Vera always felt more like a character that sacrificed everything to become a big rockstar, failed at that, became a teacher and then got bitter overtime when she understood she was also not going to teach music (or that the students simply didn't care), instead of "being laughed at by literal whos". The scene featuring Maya's parents was weird, because we know there is a consistent age gap between them, and couldn't possibly attend the same class because of that. So where were they? College, maybe? Present day Vera, Coco and some of the other students looked way too weird, almost like sticks with round balloony heads, the Valentine's comic and the trip one looked way better in comparison. The scene where young Vera cries is not good at all and seems like it escaped from someone's else DeviantArt gallery.

There's a lot which could be improved, we know from her own notes that she doesn't exactly like the students at all, so for her to spontaneously play with the band is nothing short of out of character, there's no actual reason as to why she would want to do that, especially if she got laughed at not even 5 minutes ago by her students. Maybe Coco approaches her and asks her for advice for the band, and Vera is hesitant at first or straight up shuts down her request. And only THEN you can build up on that.
