Both fascism and Hitlerism are based on purely pagan conceptions of ancient Rome and ancient Germans. Fascism is deification — deification of the state.  Fascists say: "The state is a demigod, it is all-powerful and absolute."

 And we say: "God forbid that it should be. The state is a human creation necessary for human destiny. It is a tool of the people's destiny, but it is not a deity and is not an absolute value to which we owe worship. There are infinitely greater things above the state, which the state must serve."

 Hitlerism is deification — race worship.

 And to see divinity in a state or a race, means not to see it where it can only be, means to really accept an atheistic-non-Christian understanding of the world. It is a terrible dictatorship of people who recognize God over themselves.  How terrible must be the dictatorship of people who do not even recognize God over themselves!  A dictator who does not recognize God above himself, who publicly confesses his disbelief, that is, his belief that there is no greater power over him, that must be terrible, because he who confesses that he has no one to account for and does not know about moral laws.  We, on the other hand, as Slavs and Christians, cannot stand on such understandings.

 Above the state and above the race, according to our understanding, there are infinitely greater values.  Both country and race — according to our understanding — are worth as much as they bring people closer to those greater values.

 According to the opposite understanding, the state or race are absolute standards in this, otherwise, relative world, there is no principle, no judgment, no condemnation over them.

 This is why it is possible for fascism to declare its selfishness sacred, and Hitlerism its Teutonic rage.

 It goes without saying that from this deep root emerges a whole series of understandings that must separate us — Slavs and Christians — from fascism and Hitlerism.
