Ongezellig is a self reflective commentary about native’s attitudes towards immigrants. Now I see why it has such a following is that it echoes feelings of resentment and loneliness that is felt on a large scale which outlives it’s original notions of self hatred that is projected onto outsiders. It’s a good pilot, but there are lots of other unknown pilots that don’t receive a following. My theory as to why Ongezellig has such a dedicated following is thag it speaks to those with mental illness and isolation. All in all, Ongezellig is a good thing that cracks social stigmas and unrealized attitudes that are in the shadows.
